Quiet by design

Privacy Policy

Brewlett is a private family archive, not a social network. Your family's stories belong to your family. This policy explains what we collect, how it is used to run the service, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 7 July 2026

Our promise in one line

We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never let it be used to train anyone's AI models. We earn revenue only when a family chooses a paid plan or a printed book.

Who we are

Brewlett ("Brewlett", "we", "us") provides a family memory vault that records elders' stories, transcribes and translates them, and turns them into biographies, recipes, tales, and printed books. If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at hello@brewlett.com.

What we collect

We only collect what the service needs to work:

  • Account details β€” your email address, display name, and (if you sign in with Apple or Google) the identifier those providers return. We never receive or store your password for those sign-ins.
  • Family & storyteller profiles β€” the names, relationships, primary languages, and optional avatar photos you add for the people in your family.
  • Recordings & the stories they hold β€” the audio you record, the transcripts we generate in the original language, optional English translations, and any titles, summaries, tags, recipes, tales, and biographies produced from them.
  • Photos and images you upload for recipes, storytellers, or books.
  • Payment metadata β€” plan, amount, currency, and a transaction reference. Card and bank details are entered directly with our payment providers; we never see or store them.
  • Basic technical data needed to keep the service secure and working, such as your authenticated session.

How we use it

Your content is used solely to provide the archive to your family: to store and play back recordings; to transcribe speech into text in the language spoken; to translate transcripts; to generate titles, summaries, tags, and search; and β€” when you ask for them β€” to draft biographies, recipes, and printed books. We do not use your family's stories for advertising, and we do not sell them.

Who processes your data (sub-processors)

To run the service we rely on a small number of trusted providers. They process data only on our instructions, under agreements that require confidentiality and security, and β€” for the AI providers β€” under business/API terms that do not use your content to train their models:

  • Supabase β€” database, authentication, and encrypted storage of your recordings and transcripts.
  • Vercel β€” application hosting and delivery.
  • Cloudflare β€” storage and delivery of generated book PDFs.
  • Google (Gemini) β€” speech-to-text transcription of your recordings.
  • Anthropic (Claude) β€” translation, tagging, and generating biographies and books.
  • Cohere β€” creating the search index that lets you find memories.
  • Sarvam AI and OpenAI β€” fallback transcription for certain languages when needed.
  • Razorpay (India) and Apple (App Store purchases) β€” payment processing.

Some of these providers process data outside your home country. Where that happens, we rely on their contractual and security commitments to protect your information.

How your data is protected

Recordings and transcripts are encrypted at rest and transmitted over encrypted connections. Access is family-only by default: our systems enforce that members of one family cannot see another family's vault. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it to operate and support the service.

How long we keep it

A family archive is meant to last, so we retain your recordings and their stories for as long as your account is active β€” this is intentional, so nothing you record is quietly lost. You can delete individual memories at any time, and you can delete your entire account. When you delete content or your account, we remove it from active systems; residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our normal backup rotation.

Your choices and rights

  • Export β€” you can export a copy of your data from Settings, or by contacting us.
  • Delete β€” you can delete individual memories, or permanently delete your account and its contents, from Settings.
  • Access & correction β€” you can view and edit the profiles, titles, and transcripts in your vault, or ask us for help.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data. To exercise any of them, email hello@brewlett.com.

Recordings of family members and children

Brewlett is designed to be managed by adults who record the voices of their own family, including elders and children (for example, bedtime tales). If you record another person, you are responsible for having their consent, or the consent of a parent or guardian for a child. Brewlett is not intended to be used directly by children to create their own accounts.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
